Tile Underlayment at Home Centers

What is the best underlayment to use for my tile floor project?
Lowes carries a few different types. 1/2" cement board, 1/4" hard board, orange plastic stuff.
Just wondering what is the best choice to go over plywood.
The 1/2 in stuff seems very heavy to lift and work with.

I now use Ditra on all floors that don't get floated.
It is a well designed product with a good track record.
