When to replace your roof tiles?

The tiles on my roof are I guess 25 - 30 years old and they are starting to get thin near the edges like the they are weathering, is there a general rule for replacement or do I wait till they start to go? (replacement is going to cost quite a few $ I guess?)

Depending on your cities code you can do a roof over, meaning put new shingles over the old one, or tear off the old roof and put everything new.
25 years is at the end of the life span for a roof and you should be look at doing something soon.
